Upcoming Expansion of Belgrade Waterfront: New Facilities, Parks, and Schools
The Expansion of Belgrade Waterfront project is entering a new phase of development with the ongoing early public review of amendments and additions to the Spatial Plan for its Special Purpose Area. This review offers a glimpse into the project’s future, focusing on the expansion into the Savski Venac, Stari Grad, Novi Beograd, and Čukarica municipalities.
Expanding Educational Facilities
The planned expansion includes the construction of 11 new preschools, designed to accommodate 1,650 children aged 1 to 6 years, alongside three primary schools with a total capacity for 1,920 students. These new educational facilities will cover over 5 hectares, ensuring that the growing community has ample access to high-quality education.
Extending Sava Promenada and Building New Amenities
As part of the project, the popular Sava Promenada will be extended following a comprehensive reconstruction. Once completed, the promenade will stretch 2.4 kilometers from Gazela Bridge to Ada Ciganlija, offering more space for cycling and outdoor activities. The entire length of the promenade will be enhanced with lush greenery.
Revitalizing and Expanding Green Spaces
Belgrade Waterfront will significantly enhance the city’s public green spaces. Along with new parks and recreational areas, existing green spaces will undergo major renovations. Key projects include the restoration of Sveti Nikola Park near the Bristol Hotel and the revitalization of parts of Republika Srpska Park, the park near Gazela Bridge, and Topčider Park. Additionally, the Terazije Terrace and Luka Ćelović Park will be fully reconstructed, creating a seamless “green” corridor linking Sveti Nikola Park to the Sava Riverbank.
A large new park will be developed near the Faculty of Economics, complemented by three additional parks and two public squares. The ambitious Linear Park will connect New Belgrade with Topčider Park, traversing the Old Railway Bridge, which will be converted into a pedestrian bridge lined with greenery. The park will stretch beyond the current Belgrade Fairgrounds, transforming this area into over 5.5 hectares of new parkland.
With these planned expansions, Belgrade Waterfront is set to double its public green spaces, covering more than 40 hectares in total. Additionally, a new primary healthcare facility and various sports facilities spanning nearly 2.5 hectares will be constructed, further enriching the neighborhood’s modern amenities.
Belgrade Waterfront’s next phase promises to transform the area into an even more vibrant, green, and community-focused urban environment, setting a new standard for city living in Serbia.
